The easiest way is to download a free astronomical program called stellarium [See related link]. Set your location and just search for Venus.

Otherwise, Venus is usually observed only in the morning or early evening. It is not viewable after these times.

If you see a bright "star" close to the horizon, before the Sun has set, it is more than likely to be Venus.
