Mostly if you see a difference in the plants growth quicker then usual, then that means its getting the right amount. But, if the soil around the plant is usually always damp your definitely over watering it. But if it's not getting enough water, you can tell by 1: your plants looks dried out. 2: your plants leaves or stem is ripping pr pulling itself apart. 3: Your plant is dangled over and dried out and turning brown and ripping, then not enough water sunlight or soil. You can also tell if your plants is dying or growing based on it's growth and or sprouting new leaves. Or, ripping and turning brown. Hope I helped.
If the soil is dry or/and the plant starts to die

If you are pouring water in to a cup, you can tell when it is full, if the water is spilling over the edge of the cup, then there is enough water in the cup and it is full to the top.
Plants that shrivel and turn brown are not getting enough water. Plants that start showing signs of mold may be overwatered.
