You start with the model number. It is usually located on the barrel close to the breech (loading port). Next you locate a book called "Blue Book of airguns' and you look up your model. OR you post the question here on Answers with the BSA model number, and I answer it for you.

you can tell how old a rifle is buy finding who made the rifle,the model number and then the serial number.with that info then you could ask that question just like you asked this one.
You need to state the model to even have a chance of identifying the age of the air rifle. There is no list of every air rifle by serial number.
