It will say it right on the top of the engine. Anything that is DOHC will have it on there.
===========================================================
The 1996 Mercury Sable had 2 different engines from the factory :
They were both 3.0 liter V6 engines
The " VULCAN " which is an Over Head Valve / pushrod design engine and
the " DURATEC " which is a Dual Over Head Cam design
if the spark plug wires go down the middle of the valve cover, it is DOHC. The Intake Manifold will also say Duratec. The OHV motor will have the spark plug wires connecting on the bottom of the head near the exhaust manifolds.
200 horsepower for the 3.0 L - DOHC - V6 ( Duratec ) engine
There are three different types of 3.0L V6 for mercury sable late 90s early 2000s.. the Vulcan OHV, SOHC, DOHC 24V.... for the OHV its on the upper radiator hose on the drivers side.. with a 90 neck attached to the engine block.... the SOHC under the car on the lower hose on the pass side.. 24V DOHC on a lower aluminum Tee that has two 8mm blots and three rubber hoses clamped to it between the engine block and the battery.. if you check your VIN # the 8th digit, is either an S or a U.. for the OHC.. S= DOHC, U = SOHC.... very different engines

The 3.0 L - OHC - V6 is ( 161 horsepower ) The 3.0 L - DOHC - V6 is ( 218 horsepower ) The 3.0 L - DOHC turbocharged V6 is ( 320 horsepower )
The 2.2L OHV and the 2.3 and 2.4 OHC engines require 4 quarts The 2.2 OHC engine requires 5 quarts. FriPilot
ohc
In a 1997 Ford Taurus : The 3.0 liter " Vulcan " V6 engine is an OHV / pushrod design The 3.0 liter " Duratec " V6 engine is a DOHC design
hi,if its a 1.3 ohc engine it will be chain driven.1.25/1.4/1.6/1.8/2.0,have cambelts..
overheadcam
No , not according to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera ) The website shows the 2.0 liter SOHC ( and DOHC ) engines in a 1998 Ford Escort as being INTERFERENCE ENGINES
This is only a partial answer to your question Ford started using a 2.3 L DOHC engine in the Ranger back in 2001 which puts out more horsepower than the 2.3 or 2.5 OHC engines
