Remove the fuse and check it with an ohm meter.
The fuel pump will not come on. Of course this could be a blown fuse or the pump itself has failed. Check the fuse and if it is good then install a new relay to see if that solves the problem. If not the pump is bad.
Simple, replace the fuel filter and if it still will not start more than likely the fuel pump is defective. But it can also be nothing more than a blown fuse or defective fuel pump relay. Check them both before moving to replacing the fuel pump.
You will have to remove the fuel pump relay or the fuse for the fuel pump. You did not say what year it was, so I can't tell you where it is. SORRY.
You can tell if your heal lamp relay is blown is by inspecting the fuses. If you look closely at the fuse, you will be able to tell it is blown or not. If you see a separation in the fuse, it is blown.
Correct, it will not start with a defective fuel pump. Get a helper and have the helper turn on the ignition, without starting the engine, and then you listen at the fuel filler with the cap off. You will hear the pump run for a few seconds and then shut down if the pump is running. That does not mean the pump is actually pumping any fuel but it does tell you it is running. If you do not then the pump may be defective but it may also just be a blown fuse or bad fuel pump relay. If the fuse and relay are good then the pump is defective. A fuel pressure test will verify this. On a 14 year old car the pump may very well be bad especially if the fuel filter has not been replaced every 50,000 miles. A partially clogged fuel filter will cause the fuel pump to overwork and fail prematurely.
A fuel pressure test done at the fuel rail will verify the condition of the fuel pump. Before going to that much trouble check the fuse, and fuel pump relay. If either one is defective the fuel pump will not function.
If you do not hear it run for a few seconds after turning on the ignition without starting the engine, then either the fuse is blown, relay is bad or the pump is bad. If you do hear it running, then it may be weak or the fuel filter may be clogged. You may have to listen at the fuel filler door to actually hear the pump. Replace the fuel filter and then run a fuel pressure test at the fuel rail. If you have no or weak pressure the pump is bad.
Remove the fuse and look at it. If you cannot tell if it is blown by looking at it then check it with an ohm meter.
There are many ways to tell if a fuse is blown. The most obvious way of telling is if it doesn't work.
Look in the fuse panel under the hood. The cover will usually tell which fuse it is. There is also a fuel pump relay in the same panel and it will be marked as well. Both have to be functioning properly for the pump to work.
If you turn on the ignition key without starting the engine you should hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds. If you do not check the fuel pump fuse and replace the relay before proceeding. If the fuse is good and the relay is good then you know the pump is more than likely defective.
It would either be under the hood in a fuse/relay box or on the driver's side of the dash board (open the door and it will be on the side of the dash) where the fuse panel is. It will tell you what fuse goes to what.....a/c, heater, radio, etc. Hope this helps. the fuel pump relay is under the hood of the car in the relay boxes it will say fuel pump on it If you have no cover for your fuses how do you tell which fuse is the right one for the fuel pump in the 1994 Chevy camaro z28 ?
