Of course, you could just ask: "I hope you don't mind me asking this, but it seems to me like you want to be more than just friends. Am I right?" If he starts to blush and doesn't know how to answer, or just grins and says "Yes!" then you can either say "Hey, great!" or "Thanks for the compliment, but I'm straight."
