How can you tell if the fuel pump for 1995 Ford Aspire is working?

In almost every fuel injected car when you turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position the fuel pump will run for a few seconds to pressurize the fuel system before the car starts. If you take out the bottom of the back seat of the Aspire, you will see a small panel that covers the fuel tank connections ( fuel input, fuel output and the wires to the fuel pump). If you have a helper sit in the back seat (with the lower seat removed) with his ear on that panel while someone turns the ignition switch to the "ON" position the helper should hear the pump run. Another way to check the fuel pump is to get a Pressure gauge (at least 100psi gauge) and connect it to the fuel inlet of the throttle body. After connecting the gauge, turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and watch for a pressure reading on the gauge. If you use an unbuffered gauge, the needle might fluctuate when checking for pressure. If you can't hear the pump run OR you see no pressure reading on the gauge, the fuel pump might be bad.
