Fresh water pool that you are thinking of converting to a Salt Water system your neighbors tell you that they have little or no maintenance with their Salt system?

I have a fresh water pool that I am thinking of converting to a Salt Water system. My neighbors tell me that they have little or no maintenance with their Salt system. The question I have is if I convert to a salt system why do I have to spend $1,000 on a Chlorine Generator.? If I add the salt, to change the softness and control the Algae then instead of purchasing a Chlorine Generator and paying the electricity costs why don't I just use my present automatic chlorinator with Chlorine Tablets? After a process called electrolysis is using the box of electronics breaks down the salt in the salt water In a salt system the electronic box is connected to the electrodes in the "Cell". So my point is that instead of generating chlorine from salt why don't I just add it like I don now with my fresh water system..

What are the main and the biggest differences of salt water pools and chlorine pools?

The biggest difference is the silky feel of the water in a salt pool, Cost wise it is turning out to be about the same costwise for chemicals and it can be more expensive to repair a salt system than to just add chlorine. They say with salt you have no chlorine but the machine they make makes chlorine from salt,PH adjuster is also a big factor they say you do not need it and most of the salesmen do not know what the effects of phosphates have on salt pools and also remember the no chemical quote you also have to add cyanuric acid to your pool so the chlorine generator can keep up especially in commercial applications. I Love the salt systems but it is what they don't tell you that is costly. Kenny Kummer Brody Chemical

How much salt goes into a swimming pool?

It depends how many gallons your pool is. Once you buy your chlorinating system, the install manual will tell you how much salt to add based on how many gallons in the pool. I have an Autopilot Digital and it tells me when it needs salt. I still check it with test strips to be safe.

What type of water is used in Olympic pools?

a straight Chlorine pool is easy and does not cost much to start with. Salt (Sodium chloride) water pools are also chlorine pools but they use the salt in the pool to make chlorine using an electrode designed to do that job. however the water can not be reused when back washing the filtration system. Salt (Magnesium chloride and potassium chloride) work like a normal salt pool only the salt is not harmful and can be beneficial to swimmers as well as the back wash being good for plants in the yard so no water need go to waste. Ozone requires special equipment but is reputed to be a very good sanitation method without the irritating effects of chlorine.

Can you convert clorine pool to salt?

== == Yes, Any pool can be converted to a salt water pool All that is needed to do this is the installation of chlorine generator this is put inline in an appropriate spot on the pools existing filtration system and the installation of the electronic control system. and of course the saltIt must be remembered however that a salt water pool uses the salt in the water to create its own chlorine. The salt used for this is usually sodium chloride but now a system is becoming available tat uses a far healthier and Eco friendly mix of Magnesium chloride and potassium chloride,== == == ==

Salt chlorinated pool gone green what do you do?

The fact that you use Salt Chlorine Generator does not change much. Just as before your best to take a water sample in to your local dealer to get tested and they can tell you what you need to do.

How can you tell salt water from fresh water?

Salt water pool no chlorine what is the problem?

(1) is there enough salt in the Pool?(2) is the chlorine generator turned on?(3) is the chlorine generator reasonably clean? Some of them can get clagged up with calcium and they wont work properly while that is the case they will also impede the flow of water through the system when they are like that.(4) have the chlorine generator elements reached their use by date?(5) Is there enough acid in the water? If it is clean and working you are often able to observe tiny bubbles coming away from the element.Have a talk with your pool shop if all of the above checks out in the mean time keep up the like you would in an ordinary pool

What chemicals are used to start up a salt water system pool once pool is filled?

That depends on the water you put in> It may be a good idea to take a sample of water to the pool shop and get it tested Explain what you are doing the sise of the pool etc and they will tell you what you need to get the water balance right. You will need cyanuric acid or stabilizer to maintain you chlorine levels.

Why do pool supply stores tell me salt water hot tubs aren't heard of?

Probably because it would not make economicalsense to produce a salt water system small enough to suit a hot tub.

What does density tell you about salt water?

The density of a salt water solution compared against the densities of "pure" water and salt provides an approximate value of the ratio of water to salt in the mixture.
