The signs are the same as for any age starting. Some can start as early as 9-years-old and some not until 18-years-old, but these are extremes. Most boys will start at around 12 or 13-years-old.
The signs he will notice first will be his testicles enlarging, his penis growing and pubic hair growing around his genitals. It is not until late into puberty that his voice will deepen, or drop as some will put it.
There would not be anything noticable to the parent at first to show he has started early other than the boy becoming more private with his behaviour towards his body than what he used to be.

∙ 13y agowell, hair will start growing under the arms, on the testicles and possibly in other places. Also, you will start feeling horny, getting turned on more by girls. You may get mood swings so one minute your happy and the next your boiling with rage. Either way, it is a natural part of life and you should not be ashamed of it or embarrased if you have not hit it yet. Everyone will hit puberty in their own time when their body is ready for the development. Hope that helped : )
