The bedbug goes through a number of molting stages where it could resemble a flax seed, both in color and in shape. However, if you are not in the habit of eating bagels in bed and you are finding "flax seeds", you probably have found bedbugs. Further evidence will be small bites on your legs that mysteriously appear in the morning - flax seeds do not bite.
Absolute proof will be the presence of a head and legs, all and sum-total of which scurries off on discovery, along with a somewhat malodorous aura that you have been blaming on your bedmate's rudeness. Flax seeds have neither a head nor legs, do not move of their own volition and have a mildly oily odor, not at all like flatulent gases of the human body.
Time to bring in the exterminator.
