If you're wondering about it, most likely they already have. Depending of how fast they grow and the size of the pot, most plants become root-bound within a few months. If they have been growing pretty fast and then slow down, that is usually a good indication of being root-bound. If your pot is plastic, squeeze the sides of it to loosen its grip on the soil. Try to pull the plant out. If if comes freely with everything inside the pot and you see a shell of roots, then it is root bound. Find a bigger pot to put it in. If not and it doesn't come freely or if the roots try to tear off inside the soil, it is best to leave it alone.
