*Real friends are there for each other 100% and that means through the good times and the bad. If you are sad then your friend should be there just to put an arm around your shoulder or try to understand your situation. If you are happy about something they should share in this as well. Good friends don't cause you pain, but, all of us are just human so sometimes there could be the odd argument or misunderstanding and it's important to agree to disagree. I've had many friends for over 35 years. We've been there for each other no matter what and miles don't stop us to be there in an emergency. Communication in any relationship is extremely important and you both should be honest with each other about your feelings. If it seems you are doing all the giving and your friend isn't there for you then tell them you don't like it. If they continue this behavior then it's time to move on.

∙ 12y agoIt is hard to determine sometimes but they are the ones that are there no matter what. Sometimes the people you think are your friends may just be using you and when you stop helping them, being there for them or giving them what they want you will find they won't be around anymore - the ones that stay no matter what would be a true friend. One that gives as well as receives tends to be a friend to keep.
A friend is someone you know and like, per definition. If someone doesn't cheat and lie to me & I know and like them, I would think of them as a friend. But even friends can make mistakes (sometimes).
