From what i have seen- if your friends and you go out its always really awkward. If it doesn't work your friendship will be ruined.
Just play it cool and take it a step at a time, But be prepared that if it doent work there is no going back and that you and this guy probably won't be mates.

I think the Gaelic "Claddagh" ring symbol (heart for love; crown for loyalty; two hands for friendship) would be ideal for a very close friendship between a boy and girl. It's from Ireland, and was originally used as a wedding ring however in modern times it can symbolize close friendship.
There is no such thing as a "time to like a boy" (or girl)! it just happens! sometimes it can start out as a friendship and turn into a crush, and sometimes its immediate. You will know it when it happens.
It doesn't sound like he is ready for marriage, but you can still get to know each other better, and perhaps friendship will blossom into love.
I think you shouldn't risk your friendship over a boy. Talk to your friend, and to be fair i say neither of you should get the boy unless one of you are in love with him. Which isn't a good idea if your young. Talk it over and ask yourself how important is your friendship. You'll find the right thing to do! Best of luck!:))
