A miniature ac relay is used daily in my house within the control circuit for its hot water and domestic central heating system.

For that reason I can confirm that a relay having a coil designed for continuous operation on alternating current will have a coil designed to operate without needing any diodes for rectification of the current supplied to its coil. (As no rectification is needed no capacitor is necessary for smoothing any resulting ripple.)

<><><>

The relay contacts should be wired in series with the appliance to be operated and the wiring kept well away from the coil. Don't forget to place a fuse in the contact circuit since the contacts can weld together if a fault develops. <><><> If you have a relay coil rated at say 110 volts it is usually necessary to supply it with a direct current. I would place a silicon diode in series with the coil to rectify the AC and allow the relay to operate. If it buzzes at 50 or 60 Hz you may need to use a bridge rectifier. (4 diodes encapsulated into a ring). If it still vibrates then you need to add a capacitor, rated at the proper voltage, across the coil.

Why do you still use both ac and DC?

Because some appliances work with ac current and some with dc current.

What is advantage of ac generation rather than dc generation?

!! In india and most of the other countries user ac current. Hence, all the appliances are ac dependable. So generating ac directly would allow up to directly feed the appliances without any converter circuit.

Ac relay and DC relay?

what is the meaning of ac relay and dc relay EDIT: a DC relay is simply a coil and core that pulls on an armature. An AC relay usually needs a shaded-pole core (couple of copper loops) to prevent the armature from vibrating at 60 cycles or so. The core, also, is laminated steel like a transformer; so is the armature to help contain the magnetic field. You should not substitute a DC rated relay for an AC , but the reverse should be ok, if voltage and current ratings are the same.

How can you use relay circuit to switch on bulb using micro controller?

You need a device to handle the difference between computer level signals and AC electrical switching. The most direct solution would be an optically coupled device. These combine an LED (light emitting diode) with an optically triggered SCR (switch). The LED shines on the SCR, which turns it on. These devices comes in many sizes to handle a wide range of 'bulbs'. Before opto coupled devices, this would have been done by first using a darlington switch to drive a relay coil. Opto coupling protects the micro controller from the relatively dirty power of the AC line, and lets skip the amplification step.

What is ac static switch?

The AC static switch is used to transfer the load of electrical energy to another location. Its dependability is important for an electronic device.
