It is permitted, but be aware that your letter is subject to being opened, read, and censored. You will need the inmate's full name (and possibly the inmate's number) and the mailing address of the institution.
Well, you have to find out the prisoners AO number.
You also have to find out the address to the prison.
Do not put perfume, or use markers, or crayons anywhere on the letter.
Not even stickers.
But all you do is send it to the prison with the prisoners name on it with his AO number and like for me is "Montana State Prison", so you put "M.S.P." on it.
So it would look like this.

MSP or whatever yours would be

City and state
zip code
Thats all, its really easy.
Unless they are in the jail.
How they do it here is you just go drop it off in a box in front of the jail.
