Nova Scotia is an island in the N Atlantic.

Actually, no: it is not an island, it is connected to the mainland, so (strictly speaking) it is a penninsula. Cape Breton, which is part of Nova Scotia, is an island connected to the mainland by a causeway.

Nova Scotia is surrounded on all sides by salt water, but it goes by different names: the Atlantic Ocean, the Bay of Fundy, the Northumberland Strait, the Gulf of St. Lawrence - it all depends on what you define as "the Atlantic Ocean".
