Actually, no: it is not an island, it is connected to the mainland, so (strictly speaking) it is a penninsula. Cape Breton, which is part of Nova Scotia, is an island connected to the mainland by a causeway.
Nova Scotia is surrounded on all sides by salt water, but it goes by different names: the Atlantic Ocean, the Bay of Fundy, the Northumberland Strait, the Gulf of St. Lawrence - it all depends on what you define as "the Atlantic Ocean".

Just one! The Atlantic Ocean surrounds Nova Scotia (the Bay of Fundy between us and New Brunswick and the Northumberland Straight between us and PEI. However both are still parts of the Atlantic Ocean). I should mention though that Nova Scotia is not an island and we are connected by land to New Brunswick.

The only Ocean that borders on Nova Scotia whether on the East, South or West is the Atlantic Ocean. There are smaller bodies of water that are all fed by the Atlantic Ocean that surround Nova Scotia. The Bay of Fundy on the Northern part of the West of Nova Scotia between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. To the far North and extending up to the North Eastern part of Cape Breton Island is the Northumberland Strait, fed both by the Canso strait and the Gulf of St Lawrence which is turn is joined to the Atlantic Ocean by the Cabot Strait. the Gulf of St Lawrence is the point that the St Lawrence seaway empties the Great Lakes chain.
The Bay of Fundy is located on the Atlantic coast of Canada, between the provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. It is known for having some of the highest tides in the world.
