It can get fairly cold in the winter months, however, not as much as the Northeastern USA. The winter is generally mild in Virginia. In some winters, signifgant snowfall happens , but mostly in the mountains and towards the western part of the state and does not stay on the ground for any length of time.

Average January Temp in Richmond is 45 degrees. Mostly Virginia is coldest during February. The cold usually ends by late February or early March. White Christmases are rare in Virginia.

Pretty cold. Some days are so cold that lows will sometimes be sub-zero. Its not as bad as the rest of the northeast but its still chilly. Just a normal winter day isnt too bad but at dark it gets downright cold. 40s are normal and 30s are very common too. 50s are too, but they are well above average. You will need to wear a warm jacket especially when its windy. Mornings are generally in the upper teens-lower 20s

it snows in virginia every winter, average is about 20-25 inches per year. More in the mountains- ive seen snow as late as April, and believe me.. They happen! We had one this year, but its quite cool.. Lived here my whole life, you will get all four seasons

It depends on what you mean as "cold". Just likemost states, Virginia's coldest ime period is in the winter. It gets to be rather cold, but not a cold as say Alaska, or warm as California.
