How come seagulls love food but when there is food they seem to call to each other and then fight over it?

Seagulls, and birds in general, are very vocal animals and use their voices to communicate to one another.

There are 2 types of vocal communication Song and calls.

Songs are used primarily for mating, courtship, and anything involved in the woo'ing process.

Calls are used for alarms, to locate family members and -in this case- to alert members of the same family that food has been found-

some unintended consequences of screaming 'Jackpot, I found an awesome supply of day old Bagels'- is that other seagulls hear the call as well-

So now the seagull who originally intended to share his find with family members is fighting over the food with unwelcome and unrelated hungry seagulls-

With fights and competition come more calls- but these are angry aggressive calls from one seagull to another telling each other to 'lay off my bagel'
