What is a fork connecting rod?

A forked connecting rod is where two connecting rods and there pistons are connected to one crankshaft journal as is the case of the old side valve ford v 8 engine but i believe this practice is still used to-day----------------jim

What is difference between piston rod and connecting rod?

A connecting rod connects the piston to the crankshaft - A piston rod (also called a wristpin)connects the piston to the connecting rod.

What is a rod bearing?

Rod bearing (short for connecting rod bearing) Is the bearing where the connecting rod is attached to the rotating crankshaft.

What is a rod journal?

Connecting rod journals are the part of the crankshaft where the connecting rods attach to. There is one rod journal for each piston/connecting rod in the engine. These journals have a machined surface so the connecting rod bearings can move smoothly as the crankshaft rotates.

When does a valve in the camshaft close?

valves open and close by raised lobes on the camshaft . they hit the connecting rod, which is connected to the rocker arm that open and closes a spring loaded or hydraulic valve lifters . the intake or exhaust valve is open when when the raised lobe hits the connecting rod. the valve closes when the cam shaft rotates and the connecting rod falls off raised lobe.

What is piston rod?

The piston rod is more usually called the con rod or connecting rod. It is connected at the top end to the piston with what is called a wrist pin. (The wrist pin is a cylinder of steel that slides through the side of the piston and through the top hole in the connecting rod.) At the bottom end the connecting rod mates up to the crankshaft. There is what is called a rod cap that goes on the bottom of the connecting rod to hold that rod onto the journal of the crankshaft. The connecting rod's purpose is to transfer downward and upward thrust between the piston and crank. The combustion of fuel drives the piston down to the crankshaft were it is converted to rotary force which drives your wheels. The wrist pin, is called a piston pin or gudgeon pin in the UK. The hole in the con-rod is commonly called the small or little end, and the other end where the cap holds it to the crankshaft is the big end.

Connecting rods connect the piston to what?

The connecting rod has a "wrist pin" which goes through the side of the piston and through the connecting rod. It is one of the most critical fit parts of an engine. The connecting rod or con rod connects the piston to the crank or crankshaft!!!

What would make a piston shoot through your engine?

Most likely there was a lubrication failure resulting in an increase in friction causing a catastrophic failure within the engine . The piston , the piston rings , the wrist-pin , or a bearing failure not receiving enough lubrication caused a piston to exit the block . Metal on metal = a thrown rod which is connected to the piston and the connecting rod is connected to both the piston through a wrist-pin and connecting rod connected to the crankshaft . See video tutorial below .

Can the connecting rod have a small groove an still be ok?

Any damage on a connecting rod means it must be replaced!!!
