Anesthesia wasn't always available, and it was thought the baby's nerves aren't fully developed enough to feel REAL pain. This isn't true, since I've read stories about the Jewish Bris, where babies have "screamed their lungs out."

ALL surgeries have risks, but I think it's barbaric in inhumane to NOT use anethesia!

The reason baby's are doe without anesthesia is because it can be dangerous to them. Doctors realise that circumcision is a beastly and barbaric pastime and I doubt that doctors that would lower themselves to doing this really care. it is done to baby's because the trauma helps them forget or at least keep the extreme pain submerged in the subconscious. It is the most painful thing that can be done to a child, they are just not in a position to do anything about it when they are strapped down.

Yes. You could be tired from the anesthesia, but you could also bleed and be prone to infections. You need to find a reliable doctor before you have the procedure.

Is general anesthesia a medical necessity during oral surgery?

It depends on the patient and the procedure. Ask the surgeon. For instance, if the surgery were to be performed on a very small child who could not be expected to cooperate and hold still during the procedure, general anesthesia might be required. If the patient was having a simple soft tissue surgery, such as a frenectomy, general anesthesia would not be appropriate. On the other hand, if the procedure involved removing a large bony cyst or tumor, general anesthesia would likely be necessary.

How much does it cost to get a newborn circumcised?

Circumcision of infants is relatively cheep $400.00 because the mutilation is usually done with no anesthetic at all. Doctors get away with it because babys cant complain. Circumcision is not covered by health insurance as it is not a medically necessary procedure so you will have to pay for the full cost yourself out of pocket. Circumcision with general anesthesia should cost between $2000 and $3000. This includes the doctor performing the procedure and the anesthesiologist. Circumcision of adults is less expensive, as adults can opt to have only local anesthesia. Circumcision has no known medical benefit, and most doctors recommend against routine infant circumcision. Circumcision, like all surgeries, has risks of adverse medical events including surgical error, prolonged bleeding, infection, and pain. A permanent decrease in penile sensitivity and sexual pleasure is also common since circumcision removes the foreskin, which protects the sensitive glans (head) of the penis. Circumcision is extremely rare in the world outside the United States, and even within the United States, the circumcision rate has dropped by more than half. In 1980 over 80% of newborns in the United States were circumcised while in 2007 less than 40% of infants were circumcised.

Why didn't your parents circumcise you?

The reason my parents did not circumcise me is the same reason why they did not have one of my arms amputated. You could say it just never entered their heads. They understand that genital mutilation is a reality in the world for both males and females however they would never consider doing this harm to a child. following are just some of the reasons why amputation of the foreskin should not be considered. There are many reasons why boys should not be circumcised. Circumcision has no known medical benefits, and no major medical association recommends circumcision. Circumcision, like any surgery, has risks of adverse medical events including severe pain, surgical error, infection, and prolonged bleeding. Circumcision is extremely painful for infants since it is performed without any numbing or anesthesia. Circumcision also makes the penis less sensitive, causing decreased pleasure during sexual activity. The foreskin, which is removed in circumcision, functions to protect the sensitive head of the penis. Without the foreskin, the head of the penis becomes dried out and desensitized over time. The foreskin itself also has important functions during sex. Its natural gliding motion makes it easier to masturbate or to have someone else masturbate you or give you oral sex. The motion of the foreskin also stimulates the head of the penis during sex, as the foreskin slides up and down over the head of the penis. This not only provides additional stimulation to the thousands of nerve endings of the head of the penis, but also to the thousands of nerve endings in the foreskin itself. So as you can see, there are many reasons why parents don't have their children circumcised. Circumcision may be practiced in some ethnic and religious groups, for example by Jews and in certain sects of Islam. However, most other religions including Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism do not practice circumcision. The vast majority of men in the world are uncircumcised, and even in the United States, where circumcision was once common, less than 40% of newborn males are now circumcised. Circumcision rates continue to fall. In the western United States in 2007, circumcision rates were well below 25%.

Is circumcision mutilation?

Yes and no. Circumcision is done for health and religious reasons, but it could be considered mutilation if it's not done properly or if is not medically indicated or required by one's religion. Circumcision is sometimes but rarely medically indicated, and it is almost never medically indicated for newborns. There is no immediate medical justification for routine circumcision; that's why medical plans do not cover it. Always get opinions from physicians when it comes to medical procedures.
