The reason my parents did not circumcise me is the same reason why they did not have one of my arms amputated. You could say it just never entered their heads. They understand that genital mutilation is a reality in the world for both males and females however they would never consider doing this harm to a child. following are just some of the reasons why amputation of the foreskin should not be considered.

There are many reasons why boys should not be circumcised. Circumcision has no known medical benefits, and no major medical association recommends circumcision. Circumcision, like any surgery, has risks of adverse medical events including severe pain, surgical error, infection, and prolonged bleeding. Circumcision is extremely painful for infants since it is performed without any numbing or anesthesia.

Circumcision also makes the penis less sensitive, causing decreased pleasure during sexual activity. The foreskin, which is removed in circumcision, functions to protect the sensitive head of the penis. Without the foreskin, the head of the penis becomes dried out and desensitized over time. The foreskin itself also has important functions during sex. Its natural gliding motion makes it easier to masturbate or to have someone else masturbate you or give you oral sex. The motion of the foreskin also stimulates the head of the penis during sex, as the foreskin slides up and down over the head of the penis. This not only provides additional stimulation to the thousands of nerve endings of the head of the penis, but also to the thousands of nerve endings in the foreskin itself.

So as you can see, there are many reasons why parents don't have their children circumcised. Circumcision may be practiced in some ethnic and religious groups, for example by Jews and in certain sects of Islam. However, most other religions including Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism do not practice circumcision.

The vast majority of men in the world are uncircumcised, and even in the United States, where circumcision was once common, less than 40% of newborn males are now circumcised. Circumcision rates continue to fall. In the western United States in 2007, circumcision rates were well below 25%.
