To make foods more appetizing use many different colored foods for example bright beets, orange pieces, arrange nicely on a plate a variety of tasty small portions with cut bread or crackers on the side.

Well, presentation is surely an art.

Think about the last prison movie you saw, where something

resembling food was slopped unceremoniously on an inmate's metal tray.

Did it look appetizing? Doubtful. Especially if it was served by a guy with

bare, hairy arms who had things falling off his body into the food!

Color, consistency/texture, proper preparation and arrangement all come into play.

So does the environment in which the food is served.

For example, have you ever spent a holiday with friends or family who went to great

pains to make the table beautiful? If so, you know what an impression it made.

You just KNEW that anything served in such a lovely setting, just had to be wonderful.

This could translate to something as simple as Raman noodles. Raman served in a nice

hand thrown pottery bowl with a little touch of paprika on top, sure beats serving

it in that crappy old cracked bowl that we've had for 20 years.

It's about caring and using a little imagination

Well it all depends on what food you have! Take an apple for instance; you can either: * eat it as it is, after washing it * cut it in quarters and pip it * peel, cut it in chunks and make a square (including other fruit like grapes and strawberries) from it You can apply many garnishing techniques to lots of foods; the main thing to remember is to make it look attractive to the consumer! Make it look fun, coloured, pretty, or just cut it up into small pieces, therefore it will be less of a challenge to eat but more of a joy!

The colors of the food on the plate and arrangement of the food. Try to make sure food is not touching unless it is a layered presentation and try to to have pleasing sized servings not large amounts of one thing and only a little of another. You eat with your eyes first.

You can do this in many ways:

-Make sure there is colour contrast on your plate.

-A garnish will look nice (note: it has to be edible)

-Ensure there are no spills or drips

-Try to have odd numbers of items on your plate (odd numbers are more appealing to the eye)

-If possible add height to you dish

Add spices but not a lot, (of course) and something healthy and filling. For example, maybe chicken with peas and corn and milk or fish with some peas and broccoli and milk. But remember the most important thing ever at dinnertime is dessert!
