Can the speaker of the house become president?

A person become president, he needs to meet these requirements. First, you must be a citizen born in the United States. Next, you must have lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years. Then, you must be at least 35 years old. Finally, a president can serve only two terms, or periods in office. Each term is 4 years.

What happens if the vice president and the president both die and the speaker is not born in the us?

To be a Speaker of the House, a person must be elected to the House of Representatives. One eligibility requirement for election to the House is that the person must be a citizen. So there can never be a Speaker of the House who is not a citizen of the United States. Someone who can be Speaker might not be elligible for the Presidency, for example f that person was a naturalized citizen, or not yet old enough to meet the Constitutional age requirement for the Presidency. In that case, the Speaker could not become President if both the President and Vice-President are unable to serve. The succession would skip the Speaker and devolve upon the President ProTempore of the Senate.

If the president and vice president can not serve who serves?

If one or both cannot serve because they are temporarilyincapacitated, the 25th Amendment to the United States Constitution prescribes who will become the Acting President. If the president and vice president are permanently removed because of death, resignation, etc., then the Speaker of the House of Representatives becomes the President of the United States as prescribed by the Constitution of the United States and the Presidential Succession Act of 1947.

Does the speaker of the house have to be the same political party as the president?

No. The speaker of the house is appointed by the majority party in the House, and has always been a member of that party. The speaker can be anyone, even if they are not a member of the House. (barring a breach of balance of powers; i.e. a Governor could not also be the speaker).

Who becomes president if both the president and vice president are unable to serve?

The remaining survivor becomes President or remains President. If both the president and vice-president die at the same time, the Speaker of the House becomes the President. When Bush was president, the left liked to joke about "President Pelosi"--supposedly what would happen if both Bush and Cheney were impeached. That wouldn't have happened because in two scenarios: One: Bush is impeached and removed. Cheney is elevated. His first act: appoint a vice president. When Cheney is then removed, his new VP becomes president. Two: Cheney is impeached and removed. Bush appoints a new VP, who becomes president upon Bush's removal. In either case we're looking at President Grover Norquist, not President Nancy Pelosi.

Who would be the replacement president if the President died and the Vice President became President?

If the President dies, the Vice President becomes President and under the terms of the 25th Amendment, he would nominate a new Vice President. If he were to die before the new VP could be confirmed by Congress, the Speaker of the House would become President. The line of Presidential succession is much longer : after the Speaker, there is the President pro tempore of the Senate, and then the eligible members of the President's Cabinet, beginning with the Secretary of State. What is the sequence of government officials who would assume the office of President if the US President and Vice-President could no longer serve?

* The Speaker of the House of Representatives. * The President Pro Tempore of the Senatee * The Secretary of State. * The Secretary of the Treasury. * The Secretary of Defense. * The Attorney General. * The Secretary of the Interior. * In the current administration the Secretary of Agriculture is inelligible because he is "acting", the Secretaries of Commerce and Labor are both foreign born and the list goes on and on.If they both are disabled at the same time. the Speaker of the House would become the president.

Who becomes president if the president-elect dies before the inauguration?

The Speaker of the House would become acting President. (Depending on the circumstances, the inauguration could be advanced to allow the President-elect to be sworn in earlier, but this has never occurred historically.)

Can the president become the vice president?

Yes. The president pro tempore is the 3rd in line, under succession of the presidency, after the vice president and speaker of the house. Additionally the president pro tempore could one day be elected president provided they meet all of the requirements that any other citizen would have to meet.

After the Speaker of the House who assumes the duties of US President if both the President and Vice-President are unable to complete their terms?

When the President dies and the Vice become President he then picks a new Vice, and the cycle continues. Vice -> Pres ---------------------------------------- No, that's not how it works. First off the two never travel together so they can't be killed at the same time, but if the president dies the vice precident takes over and does not appoint a vice. The position remains open. If the vice then dies the next in command takes over. That would be the secretary of state. ---------------------------------------- Actually, after the president dies, the vice president becomes president, and if he dies, then the SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE becomes the new president........ ---------------------------------------- To add to the correction, the first paragraph above is correct. The second paragraph (the first correction) is very, very wrong. First of all, the President and VP could easily die at the same time. They could be assassinated at the same function, a nuclear attack could kill both, etc. Secondly, if the President dies, the VP becomes President and appoints a new VP, who then is confirmed by a majority of both houses of Congress. It is only if both the President and the VP die at the same time, or the President dies and then the VP who became President dies before he has appointed a new VP, that the Speaker of the House becomes President. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the last guy was right, the president pro tempore becomes president after the speaker of the house...comes secretary of state, treasury, defense, attorney general, secretary of interior, agriculture, commerce, labor....finally a couple of people later it ends with the secretary of homeland security...

If the speaker of the house and the vice president are from different parties and the sitting president dies could the new president and vice president be Democrat and Republican?

Not likely . If the president dies, the VP would become the president and he would nominate someone to be the new vice president. He would choose someone from his own party and the Congress would not likely reject a nominee just because he was from the same party as the president. If his nominee was rejected he could keep submitting names until he found someone Congress would agree to.

Speaker of the house belongs to which party?

The party with the majority of members in the House since the members of the house chooses the Speaker by a vote. In theory a Speaker could be chosen from the minority party but it has never happened.
