There is no easy way to do this, but there are easier ways to go about getting an education at 40. If you are employed, check if your employer has Tuition reimbursement. This way your employer will pay for your education while you go to school part-time. To maintain this you will have get a grade of "C" or better.
If you are not currently employed go to the college and asked for the financial aid department, they will be more than happy to explain the ins and outs of getting your education. Remember, the best way to change your life, is to change your education level.

If you have been away from education for a long period (and at age 40 you probably have) or if you have non standard qualifications then it may be sensible to study a foundation course but this may or may not be mandatory depending on the institution at which you wish to study.
