I can't improve your knowledge in computers, or any other topic, for that matter. YOU can improve your knowledge of computers by working with any operational computer that is running any program that interests you. Reading the user's manual that comes with that software program will also be a big help in deciding WHICH features you might like to use, as nobody ever needs ALL the features that programs offer today. If you want to use your computer skills for pay, then ask your potential employer which programs THEY want people to be able to operate before they will hire them. Each employer will probably want slightly different skills, so don't expect one answer to fit every situation, which you seem to be wanting. Knowing how to use a word processing program, a spreadsheet program, an operating system, and a database program will be sufficient to gain employment SOMEWHERE. Few people have all those skills in one place, and people that do have all those skills are far more useful to ANY employer. Fortunately, it doesn't much matter WHAT program you pick to learn first. Yes, you will have to "waste some time" learning a NEW program that your employer wants (even if it is only a later "version" of one that you already "know"), but having learned the principles of each TYPE of program, the next one will be MUCH faster to learn, and the next one after THAT will be even easier. People that wind up doing desktop publishing or programming for a living probably won't need ANY of the programs that I mentioned, as there are specialized ways of handling those tasks that don't always need generic applications. It is probably impossible to predict what you need to learn in order to hold down a career. Just start learning, and the very act of learning will prepare you somewhat for learning whatever it is that you wind up doing. Ask 100 people HOW they came to work at the job they have, and you will see what I mean and start to laugh!
