Why did everyone dial 911 on September 11th?
Since neither the police or the victims knew the severity of the damage (nobody would think that 48,780 pounds of steel would collapse so easily) or that the towers they were in was going to collapse. It is hard to believe, but about 20% of the casualties were made by the 911 receivers. Everyone thought that it was just a fire and did not do any damage to the structure, so they told the workers to stay inside their rooms and wait until the firefighters got them or until the fire was extinguished instead of exiting the building. Because of this, most of the victims were trapped in their rooms by fire or debris until they were either burnt alive, crushed by the collapsing tower, or forced to commit suicide usually by jumping out of the building and dieing on impact. There were even some cases where the 911 receivers hung up on the victims. I put some links of 911 calls to give you more information on it.
