The fact that Alexander held his great empire together when he took off to the East was something that baffled historians. Theories suggest that he pulled it off by turning over power to his generals who were also his friends, therefore, he managed to keep the power within the empire.

Alexander the great conquered many kingdoms, including Persia and Egypt. All these different countries had varying cultures and religions, so Alexander the Great decided to unify everybody by putting everybody under one culture-Greek. He made the cities, such as Alexandria, into a Greek style. Though Alexander had everybody follow Greek, he still allowed people to practice other religions. He also participated in religious events.

In the ancient world, Alexander the Great maintained control over his vast empire through various means. Military force was one such means, as was very strict discipline within the armed forces under his command. Another clever and effective method of control was Alexander's adoption of local customs in the regions that he conquered: he blended Greek ideas and laws, etc., with the same in the regions which he acquired through force.
