Christianity has spread throughout the world, because at its very heart, it is a missionary religion, the very nature of Christianity is that it is to be preached, and the heart of that preaching is the love that our Creator has for each one of us - the "Good News" that we are going to live forever in unbelievable happiness and love free of the drudgery of this fallen world. That no matter how bad things are or will get, they all work for the good. And God, who created all of us, offers us that which we most desire.
Saints Peter and Paul went to the very center of the known world - at that time, Rome, and proceeded to convert the huge far-flung pagan, idol worshiping, baby sacrificing culture to Christianity. The other apostles went in different directions. On the very first day, the first Pentecost, St. Peter preached his first sermon and 3,000 were converted right there on the spot.
From there it expanded exponentially, because at its very core, it is the love of God calling each one of us to be the best that we can be, and to be that for each other. At its heart it is a religion which resonates with the best things in us, and we are up for the challenge. It spread through the personal witness and the personal lives of individual committed Christians.
