I am not sure about what you mean to "change people". If you mean to change a crew on a ship that didn't happen. When a sailor signed up in 1492 he was on the ship until he died or arrived back home. Many of the men on the crew had just gotten out of jail when they signed on. There were others that were forced to leave by orders of the king because they were Jewish. The crew of a ship in this time were rough and tough men. They had no beds on the ship, no place to cook, no place to wash, no bathroom, and had a bowl with a knife to eat from. If you mean how he affected society he didn't. He was considered a failure because he didn't bring riches and gold home. He didn't find a water route to Asia. He will die a sick broken man.
Columbus was before him in 1492 and didn’t change Columbus.
