It was defeated

It was conquered in a siege by the ottoman turks. They had 80,000 soldiers to Byzantines 8,000-ish, I don't know for sure but it was less than 10,000. The best defended city in the world at that time, the capital of a dying empire, the capital of the legacy of the Romans, fell.

The Ottoman Army conquered Constantinople in 1453. This conquest created the Ottoman Empire which became very powerful and dissolved the Eastern Roman Empire.
