How did Dallas Winston die?

In the movie, after a depressing death by the gangs pet Johnny Cade, Dallas runs off and robs a grocery store and threatens a man with an un loaded gun. Some say he committed suicide, which he did. He ran away from the grocery store after being shot in the stomach by the store clerk. He runs to the park and when the police show he pulls his bluff gun and was shot to death in the park.
