In fact, after the invention of the cotton gin, slavery soon quadrupled.

Because of the ability to grow more cotton more slaves were needed to pick, process, and work the fields so slavery grew as a result. By 1860 there were 4 million slaves in the US.

because it was one of the first cotton gins ever made. It's not much now, but back then it was a lot of money- like a thousand $ for us!!
