Well laws where changed by the power of the King, and Parliament. Which had a Civil War with the Kings forces being defeated. So the kings powers were limited and the country turned into a constitutional monarchy.
Temporarily, there was no monarchy. However, the leadership of Cromwell did not endure and the monarchy was reinstated, I believe with certain limitations.

Not everyone likes the monarchy in the UK but to 'overthrow' them makes no sense since they're more of a ceremonial figurehead, the UK is run by a democratically elected party and its prime minister. The reason why they are still there is because in general the British public does still support them, believe their neutrality is important and useful, believe they're a source of national pride, and support them enough to be confused if a foreigner suggests the British public is unhappy about the situation and desire change.
