It is a fact that whatever killed the dinosaurs did not kill Ichthyosaurs because their fossil records indicate they went through a mass extinction before the dinosaurs. However similar conditions could have led to their demise. One theory is that waters which the Ichthyosaur's inhabited cooled for unknown reasons and their food supply started to dwindle. Because their massive bodies required massive consumption the decrease of food sources made the animals prone to starvation. evidence of this is shown in the fossil record as well
