There is no single reason for Ethiopia, but several. It was invaded twice by Italy, in 1890s and 1936. Ethiopia defeated the Italian force in the 1895 by coming together as one nation and was aided by Russia. Italy had the backing of the English during this period. The French were also interested in Ethiopia, the Europeans powers couldn't agree amongst themselves on how to divide and share Ethiopian; this was one of several reasons that helped Ethiopia.

During the 2nd world war Italy occupied Ethiopia for 6 years, when Italy lost the war against the allay forces, Ethiopia was liberated.
