How did Ganesha become a god?

Well, Parvati created him as a guard so no one will spy on her bathing, but when her husband, Shiva, wanted to see her, Ganesha stood his ground. Shiva got angry and cut Ganesha's head off. Eventually, Parvati explained Ganesha's reason of existence and Shiva apologised by replacing his head with one from an elephant. The moral is: if there is a stranger in your house that wont let you see your wife, don't cut his head off, there might be a good reason.
