Washington didn't actually "establish" the United States. Washington acted as general in chief of the Continental Army, which did defeat the British and win our independence. Washington also agreed to serve ultimately two terms as the country's first President. But it was the documents known as The Declaration of Independence, and especially The Constitution of the United States that actually "founded" our country - and they were largely drawn up by others of the Founding Fathers - Washington probably consulted on them, but was not considered to be one of the authors. The reference to Washington as "Father of his country" is mostly a reference to his having been the first president.
