Edison thought that the best electrical distribution system was direct current. While conceptually simple, DC has the problem that energy cannot be efficiently transmitted more than a mile from a power source. George Westinghouse, using the dynamo concept of Nikola Tesla, was able to show that alternating current was a far more viable system for the generation of electrical power than DC.
