Aside from being the source of all of the names of the constellations and zodiac, Mythology was also the inspiration for a number of well known works of literature (Pyramus and Thisbe is well-known to be the inspiration for Romeo and Juliet).
Additionally, popular culture derives much of it's imagery and sayings from mythology. The bow-wielding cherub is a representation of Cupid. Our ideas of heaven and hell stem from the Greek Tartarus and Elysian Fields. The word lethargic comes from the River of Forgetfulness, the Lethe. The names of the planets come from the assigning of sacred planets to certain gods. The days of the week were also named for the gods (though the names we use are German, the origin is still Roman, and hence, Greek). Echos, Narcissism, arachnids, phobias, Morphine, hypnotism and Trojan Horses all have their place in mythology.

Greek Mythology is just like the stories we tell today in books, films etc, and played the same role in the entertainment of the Ancient Greeks.
no
Of course not. That was the religion of ancient Greece. The majority of Greeks today are Greek Orthodox Christians. If, and IF there are ANY people left today who still practice that religion, it is because they want to "show off" their ancestors, so to speak. Nobody truly worships the gods as in the old days anymore, however.
No, there is no specific Greek god of space in classical mythology. The Greeks did not have a deity specifically associated with space as we understand it today.
At Greeks time, it was not mythology but now it is. For the ancient Greeks, it was their religion, now it is a collection of interesting stories.
I don't know about in modern times, but in Ancient times, virtually all Greeks believed in their gods, which we call Greek Mythology. For the Greeks, their religion was much more important in their lives than religion is for many people today. In fact, their religion was a lifestyle for them. As for modern days, I'm hazarding the guess that there are a lot less people who are greek or live in Greece that believe in ancient Greek Mythology. Hope I helped! :)
Greek mythology attemped to explain everything that the ancient Greeks couldn't understand. Remember that ancient Greeks didn't know the things we know today. Some examples are: Death Love Birth Good and evil Creation Sicknesses The stars Life ... And more
The Greeks did not date their mythology.
religious beliefs
In the ancient past the Greeks believe in what we today call "classic mythology", the Olympians: Hera, Zeus, Poseidon, Demeter, Apollo, Artemis, Dionysus, Aphrodite, Athena, Ares, Hermes, and Hephaestus. As well as others: today, many Greeks believe in God. There is, however, the revival of New Age "pagan" believes.
In Greek mythology, the Greeks built the horse.
