How did Gutenberg invention of the printing press in 1445 change Europe and the world?

One important way was that it allowed for the mass printing of the Bible. When people could read it for themselves, they realized that some of their own interpretations may have been different from those of the Catholic Church.
This began the formation of many new branches of Christianity.
Now it lowered the costs of books ;)
