How did Abraham Lincoln free slaves from slavery?

He freed the slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation that said slaves could no longer be kept in the rebel states, also known as the South. Lincoln freed the slaves to try to keep the North fighting and to force the South back into the United States, Lincoln wanted to send all the slaves to central america because he did not believe whites and blacks should live together, Lincoln also was a slave owner.

What were some changes after the civil war?

After the civil War the 13th amendment (Emancipation Proclamation) was made and abolished slavery. The south had to reconstruct their economy, as the slaves were a major part of the South's economy at the time. Do not think that the North won and said "Too Bad!", the North helped in the reconstruction as well.

What year did slavery become an issue of the civil war?

When Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in September 1862 as an urgent tactical measure to keep the British and French from helping the Confederates. Before that, Abolition was not the war aim, and it is a common mistake to think that the North leapt into uniform in order to fight slavery.

Why did Lincoln think an emancipation proclamation would help the North?

I would believe the emancipation proclamation is important for the north because of its factories. The loss of enslaved workers would hurt the south and would turn the british away from the south.

You are a slave in South Carolina during the civil war Someone has just read to you then emancipation Proclamation What are you thinking?

How do you think slaves who were freed by the emancipation proclamation felt about Lincoln?

They might not have known much about it. If they did, they would probably have realised that the Proclamation didn't free many slaves anywhere. It was mainly a tactic to stop Britain and France from aiding the South. (It would have made them look pro-slavery themselves.)

Why was it important for Lincoln to think about all points of view before deciding to write the Emancipation Proclamation?

it was important to think about it because he didn't want a conflict and he wanted to include everybodies vote.

What do you think would have happened if Abraham Lincoln had waited until after the civil war to issue the emancipation proclamation?

The main purpose of issuing the Emancipation Proclamation was international propaganda, as it had no actual effect in either the north or the south as written. It freed no slaves in northern slave states still loyal to the Union and although it declared the slaves to be free in those states then in rebellion against the Union there was no means available to enforce it. Thus all slaves prior to the Emancipation Proclamation still remained in slavery after it. Only after the Civil War was over did Union soldiers have the ability to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation in the south. The slaves in the northern states that did not rebel still remained slaves until the Thirteenth Amendment completely abolished slavery (as the Emancipation Proclamation explicitly left them slaves to prevent having those states rebel too during the Civil War).

What do you think was the most important effect of the emancipation proclamation?

The most important effect of the emancipation proclamation was keeping the British and the French from aiding the Confederates, which was a major headache for Lincoln in Summer 1862.
