Malcolm X advocated for self separation of the races but he did not agree when a government mandated segregation. The Nation of Islam argued for self separation in both economic and social spheres as a way of proving equality, if not supremacy, in society.

Martin Luther King, Jr. He lost a lot of followers, after he was on parole and said he could not partake in the bus rides, but he quickly regained those followers. He also had followers that were both white and black. He not only protested segregation, but the war in Vietnam, which gained him support with college students. Malcolm X, on the other hand, while a strong leader, was more violent towards all whites. Malcolm X protested segregation through violent sit-ins which, in the end, got him killed.
Malcolm X penned 'The Autobiography of Malcolm X' with the help of writer Alex Haley, which was published in 1965. His diary was also published in 1964, under the title 'The Diary of Malcolm X.' Other publishing houses have compiled his speeches, notes, and other written works into compilations, though Malcolm X did not write the compilations himself.
