It started as a revolt led by Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo on September 16, 1810 and ended after the leader of the Spanish forces, Agustin de Iturbide, switched allegiances, joining Vicente Guerrero's separatist army, jointly entering Mexico City on September 27, 1821.
