During 1900-1914, the great powers of Europe clashed a number of times. Each of these events increased international tension and rivalry, and made war more likely. War was going to come sooner or later.
As specifically concerns Morocco: In 1904, the United Kingdom recognized the French Sphere of Influence in Morocco. This provoked German reaction, culminating in the Crisis of 1905. This was resolved at the Algeciras Conference in Spain in 1906 which formalized the France's and Spain's roles in controlling Morocco. The Germans also cause the Agadir Crisis which led to 1912's Treaty of Fez, which divided Morocco in French and Spanish Protectorates. Control of Morocco put the British and French squarely against attempts by Germany for hegemony.
In 1904 Britain and France had entered into a secret agreement according to which Britain was to have a free hand in Egypt, and France was to take over Morocco. The agreement became known to Germany and aroused her indignation. The German emperor went to Morocco and promised the Sultan of Morocco his full support for the independence of Morocco.
Morocco attacked Algeria in October of 1963 because France had annexed portions of Morocco to Algeria. About 350 people died, but Morocco gave up and no territorial changes were made.
