Native Americans used various farming techniques such as slash and burn, crop rotation, and companion planting to cultivate crops like maize, beans, and squash. Harvesting was done by hand using tools like wooden digging sticks or woven baskets to gather the crops when they were ripe. Some tribes also preserved food through drying, smoking, or storing in caches.
