"Silver State."

Nevada has a very strong mining industry. Silver deposit were very rich until the 1900's. Mining declined for a while, gold is now the most abundant. That is why the nickname for Nevada is the "Silver State."

The official slogan "The Battle Born State" adopted on March 26, 1937, reflects the fact that Nevada became a state in 1864 during the Civil War.
