She was born a beautiful child but was so worried about her beauty being a distraction that she rubbed her face with lye and chili powder to cause her to be less attractive. When she was admitted to Dominican Order as a tertiary for eleven years she continued this self-martyrdom without relaxation and died of her deprivations at the young age of 31.
