Scotland never gained independence from Great Britain. Scotland is one of four provinces in Great Britain. England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Though Scotland is a part of Great Britain, it is still very common to say "When are you going to Scotland?", rather than saying, "When are you going to Great Britain?"
We have yet to get it back after signing it away and a 'treaty' coming into force on the 1st of January 2009. See Lisbon Treaty- EU. If you mean the 'other way' then yes, we have never had to 'gain' it from anyone as we formed it and have defended it very robustly ever since.

The Scots had always been independent before the reign of James VII, who became king of England. He merged the two countries in the early 1600s. Scotland has yet to undo that merge.
