Simon Bolivar was instrumental in helping to set free the country of South America from Spain. Bolivar was born in 1783 and was considered to be Latin Americas greatest leader in their Independence movement.
I am not sure but I think his greatest challenge was to free south America from Spaniards.

It depends on what part of South America you are talking about. There was no one person who freed every country. A couple of the most famous were Simon Bolivar and Bernardo O'Higgins.
