Rose of Lima was a Dominican Tertiary who spent most of her life living in a garden shed at the home of her parents in Lima, Peru. She did gardening and embroidery to help support her parents as well as to help the poor. She subjected herself to extreme penances and deprivations and this abuse of her body had a drastic negative effect on her health which led to her early death.
